I am a primary school teacher who teaches in Leicester. I have been teaching for 7 years full time, although I have been in education since 2007. I started my journey in education in December 2007 when I was in the final year of my BA course. I was doing a BA course in Business and Management and after a 2 month placement I knew that Business wasn’t for me! So what was?I had always loved teaching at my local Taekwon-Do club so I thought maybe teaching was the way forward. I began by volunteering at my local primary school – This was also the school I attend at a child. (Red Hill Field Primary). This then became a paid vacancy in 2008, which I applied for and got. I worked for the next 18 months as a TA 2 days and week and as a HLTA for an afternoon. I applied for a ITT course and got on it. I began training to be a teacher in September 2009 with the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT. I qualified in 2010 and started work in a year 3/4 class.
I stayed within my first school for 6 years working within years 3, 4 and 5.
I led the following subjects:-
- PHSCE
- PE
- Science
- Healthy schools and School Council
- SMSC – Linking peer Medication to conflict resolution
- RE
- Collective workship
- ICT
- Computing
I have also mentored 3 ITT student (All from the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT ) and successfully lead a teacher through her NQT year.
I now work in a primary school of just over 350 children in Year 5 and 6
In my current school am Maths subject lead and Phase leader for year 5 and 6.
Outside of teaching I am also a Taekwon-Do Instructor two evenings a week – The Leicester Taekwon-Do Academy
I am the #UkEdChat ambassador for the East Midlands
I blog at the following place – To teach or not to teach – Now that’s a good question
