100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – WEEK #21

100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – WEEK #21

This weeks 100 word challenges is a picture prompt from this super blog ‘The Incredible Lightness of Seeing’. below is my entry

The window

There was something about that window that made be run past it every day for over a year. I have memories of running past it every day for 5 years. It all started when I was 11 years old and I transferred to the high school! It was during the middle of December that I had this experience;

I was walking home when I saw it, it looked like a headless man!!

It was only after 5 or so years I realised that it was some work clothes that had been hung up and a motorcycle helmet that was on a shelf.

This is a weekly challenge for those who are over 16 and enjoy challenging themselves with writing. Each week you are given a prompt. It may be a few connected words, a selection of individual words or a picture. You have 100 words (or the number that have been set for that week) to write a creative piece. If you have a blog, post it on your blog then link the URL of the post (not the blog) to the link that is at the bottom of that week’s challenge. One of the great things about the 100WCGU is how people visit other blogs and read the entries. It is all about supporting our writing and giving constructive feedback and support.

  1. I really like this up until the last two lines. My problem is that if he realized the next morning what it was, why was he still so scared that he spent the next 5 years running past the house? I think a more mysterious ending would be more effective for such an intriguing beginning.

  2. This is an interesting story, but if feels as though it was written quickly and not edited with much thought to it’s structure. Some of the sentences repeat things that take up words you could use to open this up a little and bring in some creative tension to really draw us in.

  3. The mind plays tricks on us and our inner fears cloud our judgement. You could have perhaps have used the issue of time (1 year and then 5 years) a little less, but we are all here to practice and learn and despite the repeat – I got what the story was saying (but then I’m scared of what I can’t see, not what I can)

  4. Very interesting piece and take. I remember when I used to live in my flat my husband had hung his suit on the curtain pole and the neighbour across the road came over and asked us to take them down as his daughter was upset thinking someone was hanging there. The mind does play tricks.

    1. it was indeed, a personal reflection ( i got very scared when i was in high school to the part i added an extra 20 minutes to the journey so i didn’t need to go past a ceratin house 🙂 very spooky.

  5. I can actually see the passing of time with the realisation of what was being seen daily. I think it is a reallt interesting idea to see how what we ‘see’ each day changes even though it is the same (does that make sense?). Good to see your work again Nick!
